Online Workshop: How to write your artist statement
It’s very hard to write about yourself (even I struggle and I’m a writer!), so I have put together a short, virtual course that will break down the artist statement into manageable chunks.
This 1.5 hour (ish) virtual workshop, will dissect why your artist statement is important, exercises to help you connect to your inspirations, and the three must haves for a successful statement, ensuring you leave the session with a clear idea (and hopefully a start) on how to tackle it.
The session will include:
Break downs of example artist statements
Tips on length and content
Practical exercises to help you connect your visual language to your core inspirations
PRICE: £25 pp
VENUE: Online via zoom
DATES: Multiple, monthly dates
The Tevi Workshops: Nurturing the artist & their creative practice.
If you’re an artist who wants to better understand ‘why’ you create the work you do, if you’re unsure about how to communicate this clearly, or looking for guidance about how to get your work seen, then you might be in the right place. This day-long workshop, led by art writer Kate Reeve-Edwards and professional artist Wendy Rolt, will help you to consolidate what your work expresses, alongside giving you actionable steps to professionalise your creative practice.
The day includes:
Practical tips on how to write your statement
A one-to-one session with Kate discussing your motivations, methods and process
A group crit of your work led by Wendy
A nourishing lunch
Tips on websites, instagram and approaching galleries
A zoom follow up to discuss your statement
The next workshop will be in the Spring of 2025 with dates yet to be confirmed. Please register your interest below to receive updates on our next sessions.
One-to-One Mentoring
Struggling with where you’re going? Unsure what you’re ‘saying’ with your work? Feeling uncertain about your practice? My one-to-one mentoring sessions help you unlock what you’re trying to communicate. Implementing writing exercises, practical workshops and a series of informal interviews, I help you reconnect with your practice, write your statement and understand how to go forward.
The three tenants of your practice are interior inspiration, exterior inspiration, and methods & materials. My tailored mentoring sessions lead you through these three themes, leaving you with a clear knowledge of both why and how you create.

The Studio.
Visiting your studio helps me get under your artistic skin, to understand how you create. In the studio we will undergo a series of exercises, both written and practical, to unlock what you are trying to communicate. This is sometimes through working alongside you, so I can see your process and thought patterns in action. Other times this is through considering your work through a written lens, by undertaking poetic exercises or ‘reviewing’ a specific painting.
Out There.
I’m interested in understanding your exterior inspiration and experiencing it with you. If this is the landscape, we will take some time exploring places that influence you. If it’s still life, then we’ll investigate the objects which interest you. If it’s the materiality of paint, we’ll spend time exploring pigments.
Whatever we do, wherever we go, I will always be asking the question ‘why?’
Each mentoring session is tailored entirely to you. My main aim is for us to discover, together, how and why you create.
To get an idea of how I work with artists, a recording of part of a mentoring session with artist Natalie Day can be found here.
