The Tevi Workshops

6th October 2024 . £100 PP

Trenince Farm | Luxulyan | Bodmin | Cornwall | PL30 5DS

Nurturing the artist & their creative practice.

Tevi is the Cornish word for ‘grow’, and this is what we hope to do for artists in this day-long workshop. We will see you both as an individual and as part of a larger artistic ecosystem, helping you to find your voice and flourish in the professional landscape.

If you’re an artist who wants to better understand ‘why’ you create the work you do, if you’re unsure about how to communicate this clearly, or looking for guidance about how to get your work seen, then you might be in the right place.  This day-long workshop, led by art writer Kate Reeve-Edwards and professional artist Wendy Rolt, will help you to consolidate what your work expresses, alongside giving you actionable steps to professionalise your creative practice.

The day includes:

- Practical tips on how to write your statement

- A one-on-one session with Kate discussing your motivations, methods and process to help draw together a clear artist statement

- A group crit of your work

- An appraisal of your website and social media with steps for change & development

- A nourishing lunch

- Discussion and advice on how to approach galleries: what & what not to do

- An opportunity to meet a new community of artists

- An hour zoom call follow up to discuss your statement

To apply.

To keep these workshops focused and sensitive, spaces are limited to 6 artists per day.

Workshop dates: 4th, 6th & 19th October.

£100 PP.

Please email one image of your work, links to your website and social media, along with your preferred date.

Location.

The Tevi Workshops take place in the beautiful landscape of Trenince farm, Luxulyan, Cornwall. The large workshop space, complete with cosy wood burner, is surrounded by an expansive garden, with a temperate rainforest a stone’s throw away. The surrounding landscape, which the Saint’s Way passes through, features granite standing stones, wild fields of long grasses, and a plethora of native wildlife.

If you would like to incorporate the day into a longer weekend in Cornwall there is a local pub with rooms available, a campsite nearby, or, to get the full Trenince Farm experience, a charming shepherds hut on site.

One-to-One Mentoring

Struggling with where you’re going? Unsure what you’re ‘saying’ with your work? Feeling uncertain about your practice? My one-to-one mentoring sessions help you unlock what you’re trying to communicate. Implementing writing exercises, practical workshops and a series of informal interviews, I help you reconnect with your practice, write your statement and understand how to go forward.

The three tenants of your practice are interior inspiration, exterior inspiration, and methods & materials. My tailored mentoring sessions lead you through these three themes, leaving you with a clear knowledge of both why and how you create.

The Studio.

Visiting your studio helps me get under your artistic skin, to understand how you create. In the studio we will undergo a series of exercises, both written and practical, to unlock what you are trying to communicate. This is sometimes through working alongside you, so I can see your process and thought patterns in action. Other times this is through considering your work through a written lens, by undertaking poetic exercises or ‘reviewing’ a specific painting.

Out There.

I’m interested in understanding your exterior inspiration and experiencing it with you. If this is the landscape, we will take some time exploring places that influence you. If it’s still life, then we’ll investigate the objects which interest you. If it’s the materiality of paint, we’ll spend time exploring pigments.

Whatever we do, wherever we go, I will always be asking the question ‘why?’

Each mentoring session is tailored entirely to you. My main aim is for us to discover, together, how and why you create.

To get an idea of how I work with artists, a recording of part of a mentoring session with artist Natalie Day can be found here.

More information.

My day rate for in person sessions is £240.

For dates and travel radius, please email me.

I also lead remote mentoring sessions, offered via zoom. These one-to-one sessions are similarly tailored to your needs, focusing on writing exercises and artist statement workshops. My hourly rate for remote mentoring is £30. Email me to find out more.

If you’re looking for a longer-term mentoring course which covers all elements of your art practice, I highly recommend The Newlyn School of Art. I currently guest mentor on the Mentoring and Professional Landscape courses.
